My San Diego Comic-Con Plans… SO FAR

We are 20 days away from my flight to San Diego Comic-Con (and 22 days until Preview Night), so it’s time for me to run down what my plan is SO FAR.  I’ll be updating this page as things get added.

Monday July 16th

I decided to work on Monday this year and take an overnight flight to San Diego to cut down on the PTO I’d be using.  Needless to say, this is going to be an anxious day for me, but after 10:30pm I’ll be on my way to San Diego!

Tuesday July 17th

I arrive in San Diego just after 10am after a brief layover in LA (it’s less than an hour layover so sorry, I can’t visit anyone! But please wave at LAX as you pass by on your morning commute thx).  I have about a 4 hour window to get settled at my friend Dan’s house (I’ll be staying with him for a night before checking into my hotel) and grab In N Out, then I dive right into several meet ups scheduled back to back.

3:00pm: Friends of Comic Con Pre SDCC Meet Up

7:00pm: Pre SDCC Dinner w/ Badge Holder Facebook Group

8:00pm: Nerd Family Reunion

Wednesday July 18th

This is another day of meet ups and ALSO the first day of the con.  I have a small gap in the middle where people who want to trek down to San Diego to say hi can meet up with me.

8:00am: Friends of Comic Con Breakfast Meet Up

10:00am: Non-SDCC Friend Meet Up

4:00pm: Preview Night Webcast

6:00pm: Preview Night

9:00pm: Game of Bloggers Party

Thursday July 19th

This is the first OFFICIAL day of the con (if you don’t count Preview Night).

10:00am: From the Bridge panel
From The Bridge, a documentary about the evolution of fandom, will present a panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, July 19th in Ballroom 20 at 10 a.m. The documentary is narrated by George Takei (Star Trek) and includes interviews with luminaries of the science fiction, comics, and horror genres. The panel will be moderated by Greg Grunberg (Heroes) with panel members including Nichelle Nichols (Star Trek), writer-director Spencer Lee ( From The Bridge), producer Rod Roddenberry (Earth: Final Conflict), Kerry O’Quinn (Down with David), producer Tom DeSanto (X-Men), Cecil Grimes (cosplayer extraordinaire) and some very special guests. With these extraordinary panelists, attendees can expect a lively discussion about the evolution of fandom and possibly where it is going in the future. Also, those attending the panel will be treated to scenes from the documentary which will include never before seen archival footage. It promises to be both fun and highly informative.

1:30-4:30pm: Closet SMASH party

9:00pm: Rave of Thrones w/ DJ Kristian Nairn

Friday July 20th

12:00pm: Deadpool Hospitality Suite
I’ve been invited to a special viewing of the Deadpool Hospitality Suite at the Hard Rock.

4:00pm: Conan O’Brian
The Cast of Aquaman: To Be Announced.

9:00pm: Nerd Nite
I’ll be partying it up with astronauts and JPL scientists at the Solomar.

Saturday July 21st

11:15am: Boku no Hero Academia
Kohei Horikoshi is scheduled to participate in a variety of events during the convention including the official MY HERO ACADEMIA panel discussion. The panel will feature several notable voice actors including Christopher R. Sabat, voice of All Might, and Justin Briner, voice of Deku, from the anime adaptation of the popular series.

1:30pm: SKYBOUND Insider Party

Sunday July 22nd

On this day I’ll be trapped inside Hall H all day long.  The thing I want to see isn’t until 2:15, but I have to be as close as possible so… I sit and wait I guess.

10:15am: Hall H programming begins (Supernatural, Riverdale, Mayans)

2:15pm: Legion panel in Hall H
FX’s Legion, based on the Marvel Comics by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, is the story of David Haller, a man who believed himself to be schizophrenic only to discover that he may actually be the most powerful mutant the world has ever seen. Along with a team of other extraordinarily gifted people, David learned to accept his true self and set out to defeat the Shadow King, who was on a path to attaining infinite and world-ending power. In season 2, a series of mind-bending twists and turns called into question who is the hero and who is the villain. Creator/executive producer/writer/director Noah Hawley, alongside fellow executive producers John Cameron and Marvel’s Jeph Loeb, and some cast members will participate in a conversation of what to look forward to in season 3.

6:00pm: Friends of Comic Con Dinner

Monday July 23rd

Happy birthday to me. Happy birthday to me.  I’ll be spending my 32nd birthday traveling home.  But because of the fact that it’s my birthday, I’m treating myself to a nice flight.  Hawaiian Airlines is super fancy froo froo and they have free Mai Tais on approach to Honolulu.

Until we meet again, San Diego.  Just 359 days to go.
